Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree

Bitternut Hickory · About five minutes

Observe first. Decide gently.

Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.

Find a comfortable place.

Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.

  1. Settle beside the view

Choose stable, permitted ground and a comfortable seat or stance. Keep fallen nuts and living growth undisturbed.

  2. Find one distinguishing detail

Observe a visible bud, leaflet, or patch of bark. If it is too distant, use the photograph later rather than reaching for a branch.

  3. Separate seeing from guessing

Name one thing you actually see, then one interpretation you have added. Let both be present without needing a final answer.

  4. Choose a patient action

Name a process you are tending and one modest action that supports it. Return to the whole tree and finish when ready.

An optional five minutes

You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.

5:00

Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.

Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.

When you are ready

What became clearer when you separated observation from assumption?

Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
