Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree

Bald Cypress · About five minutes

Stay present as things change.

Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.

Find a comfortable place.

Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.

  1. Find stable support

Choose a permitted path, boardwalk, or firm upland viewpoint away from the water’s edge. Sit or stand comfortably with your usual supports. There is no need to approach knees or roots.

  2. Choose a steady form

Rest your gaze on a section of trunk or a branch at a comfortable height. Notice its outline and the support beneath your own body.

  3. Include one change

Notice moving foliage, water, a passing sound, or shifting light. In a still scene, notice the ordinary arrival and departure of your own thoughts. Return to the tree’s outline when you wish.

  4. Take an adaptable step

Ask what could help you stay engaged with your day while allowing change. Choose one practical adjustment. Widen your attention and finish at your own pace.

An optional five minutes

You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.

5:00

Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.

Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.

When you are ready

What helped you stay present while allowing something to change?

Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
